A Virtual Ghost is a living memory. Players watch themselves perform a series of gestures in their home environments and respond with personalized sounds that illuminate aspects of those actions.
I began by meeting with each performer, playing them an audio score in which they image they are a ghost, and videoing their response. These videos became the foundation for a visual score of woven gestures, layered and transposed in real time by Stephanie Sherriff. I made an accompanying score of musical prompts for each gesture so that as they watch themselves, they anticipate their movements and develop unique sonic responses.
